Shoulder Tendinitis

Shoulder Tendinitis : Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Shoulder tendinitis, also known as rotator cuff tendinitis, is a common condition that affects many individuals. It is characterised by inflammation of the tendons in the shoulder, leading to pain and discomfort in the affected area. The primary cause of shoulder tendinitis is overuse or repetitive strain on the tendons ,common in both young athletes and middle-aged people.   Age-related degeneration of the tendons can also contribute to the development of this condition. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, can increase the risk of tendinitis.

As the problem progresses, the symptoms increase, pain at night, loss of strength and motion, difficulty doing activities like placing the arm behind the back to button or zip clothing. If the pain comes on suddenly, the shoulder may be severely tender. All movement may be limited and painful. If left untreated, shoulder tendinitis can progress and cause further complications, such as a rotator cuff tear.

There are several treatment options available for shoulder tendinitis. Resting, applying ice packs and taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce pain and inflammation. Physical therapy exercises aimed at strengthening the shoulder muscles and improving flexibility are also beneficial in the treatment of shoulder tendinitis.
